Awwww yeah. Could you have a better locale to recover from a tough off-road triathlon? Our buddies down at Jakes are putting on their annual tri there in Treasure Beach.

Now in its 13th year the Jake’s Jamaican Off-Road Triathlon takes place every spring, featuring a 500-meter ocean swim, a 13.7-mile mountain bike course and a 4.3-mile cross-country run and can be done as a team or individually. The race is the main fundraiser for Breds Treasure Beach Foundation, a local non-profit that helps raise funds for sports, education, environmental initiatives and health programs in the small fishing village of Treasure Beach. Also, local mountain biker Andy is available to take people around this course. Rates for Jake’s start at $95 based on double occupancy now through December 14, 2007, and $115 from December 15, 2007 to April 19, 2008. And as an Outdoorzy member you’ll get a 5th night free when booking 4 nights through December 14th.
Mark your calendars, the date is April 27th, 2008.

We announced to the public this week that we are offering our members a benefits package that expands beyond the boundaries of Outdoorzy. Many of you are aware of this already and may have taken advantage of one of your benefits already. Things like a 15% discount at Moosejaw.com, $3 off a subscription to WEND Magazine… possibly the best thing to hit print. But I also wanted to mention another benefit today… a discount on web hosting!

This might interest our Business Directory members quite a bit since you are running businesses and may need a web presence, or may want to switch hosting services to a more economical plan. And some of you might be interested in creating a blog site or a even an e-commerce site of your own. ImOutdoorsHosting.com is providing a great hosting discount for Outdoorzy Members. They’ve waived all setup fees and are offering their very robust hosting plan for just $4.95/mo (normally $6.95).
So if you do want to start your own site up, check these guys out. Its a steal on web hosting. But just like our other benefits, you have to be a member to get the discount. But then again, Outdoorzy is free, so quit yer whinin.
PS - we’ll be announcing another benefit next week…. then hopefully, another, and another…

As you may have noticed we have new bloggers on the scene here at Outdoorzy. With snow falling in the upper elevations we have asked two people who are close to snow sports action to join our blogging team.
Blow Snow

An avid skier, skateboarder, mountain biker, and snowboarder, Blow Snow knows a few things about the trails in Colorado. He’s lived in such interesting locales as Costa Rica and Mexico, but has planted himself recently in Vail.
Mikey One Sock

We don’t quite know where he got his name yet but we do know that he was on the US Ski Team and is now fighting his way into competitive Mountain Biking in Colorado. Mikey will have some interesting stories for sure, but we are most interested in the “One Sock Saga”…
Welcome to both these guys and we look forward to their wit and wisdom!

Ahhhhh Jakes!

I’m happy to announce a new benefit for Outdoorzy members. Jakes Jamaica is offering us a deal if you book 4 nights you can get the 5th night free!
If you’re not familiar with Jakes, let me explain my excitement. Jakes is a bohemian, artsy, funky, laid-back, outdoorzy resort on the south coast of Jamaica. It’s nowhere near the resort areas. In fact, you will have to take a cab or Jakes can get you a drive to take you the 2 hours through the mountains to their property. Jakes rests on a 10 foot cliff overlooking the Caribbean. There are beach dogs sprinkled here and there, hammocks strung between trees, a saltwater pool, and an interesting library of music you can just take back to your cottage if you like. And the cottages are amazing. They are funky, and will be like nowhere else you’ve stayed. Treasure Beach is the community this place is located in, and the locals are friendly folk. We hopped on board a boat one morning with a fisherman named Dennis and caught some sweet fish, then took them to a bar made of driftwood about a 1/2 mile off shore on stilts, and the resident red stripe swinging, dread-locked chef cooked it up.
Jakes has quite a clientèle too, including Bono of U2 fame. Oh, and me! Check out my trip report from my visit here. Rates start at $95 a night.
If you’re not an Outdoorzy member today, join up and take advantage of this offer for your next vacation. You won’t be sorry!

I saw this magazine several months ago and was taken aback by the fact that I hadn’t heard of it yet. I mean, how could an outdoor magazine that looked this good not be on my radar??? Well now it is, I have my first issue, and it’s fantastic!

The first thing that jumps out at you is the photography. How the Hell do they get those angles? The second thing that jumps out at you is the content. The magazine focuses hard on adventure travel. It takes you to places you didn’t even know existed on this blue orb of ours. After my initial excitement over Wend I contacted the editor, Ian. He’s been great to work with and we’ve worked a discount out for Outdoorzy members. Just go to the Wend subscription page and sign up for an account. When you are prompted with “Redeem Code” just enter “outdoorzy” and you’ll get $3 off your subscription! That’s $11 for a subscription, getting you 4 Wend Magazines for one year. And 4 is pretty good for the quality and thickness of the publication. I’m happy to announce this new benefit to Outdoorzy members, take advantage of this great mag!

For anyone in the Central Tennessee area this weekend, don’t forget the Jailbreak Triathlon. This event is sponsored by Outdoorzy and is a great off-road triathlon course. Inmates from the county jail help you put your boat in the water to start the race. Then you paddle your a$$ off when the gun goes off, because you don’t know where the shot came from
Seriously though, great race to compete in, and a great race to watch. Come down to Columbia if you’re in the neighborhood to hang out with some Outdoorzies. Prizes will be given away, and the weather is shaping up to be perfect.
