Vote for Outdoorzy at The Crunchies

Crunchies2007

I don’t like to beg, but whatever, I love outdoorzy! Please vote for outdoorzy.com for the 2007 Crunchies.

The 2007 Crunchies is our first annual competition and award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the most compelling startups, internet and technology innovations of the year. The Crunchies is a collaboration project between GigaOm, Read/WriteWeb, VentureBeat and TechCrunch. Best of all, the internet community is invited to choose who wins.

We would suggest nominating our site in such categories as…

  • Best bootstrapped start-up
  • Best design
  • Best user-generated content site
  • Most likely to succeed
  • Best new start-up of 2007
  • Best overall

We really do appreciate your vote, we would love to be represented in one of the categories. The voting is very easy, just click the nomination link the type in “outdoorzy.com”. That is all you have to do.

Thanks!

Dirt Sweat and Gears

Outdoorzy is sponsoring a race down in Fayetteville Tennessee this spring called Dirt Sweat and Gears. It is one of the biggest mountain biking events in the country and the biggest in the Southeastern US. I’ll be blogging more about this in the future but wanted you to be aware of it so you can put it on your calendars for May 2nd and 3rd 2008.
dirt sweat and gears

Mountain Bike races for all classes
A “Vendor Village” with your favorite outdoor companies (including Outdoorzy)
Tons of prizes and give-aways
Free camping
A concert at night with great music
And the opportunity to hang out with alot of outdoorzy types

This should be a must-do for ‘08 if you’re into mountain biking, or just want to attend an outdoorzy-type event.

Outdoorzy Invades the Airwaves

travel hub
I was interviewed Sunday by a radio show called Travel Hub. The show is part of World Talk Radio which broadcasts on stations all over the country, the internet, and Sirius satellite radio. The hosts are Jeff and Rochelle. They’ve traveled all over this planet and run this radio show specifically for people who love to travel. They wanted to see what Outdoorzy was about so I filled them in. I also spilled the beans a little about some upcoming additions to Outdoorzy.

This is 19 minutes of the finest radio the world has seen. You may want to skip forward to about 2 minutes into the recording to skip the commercials.

You can listen to the interview on the player below.

ONE THOUSAND!!! *and t-shirt give-aways

Well it’s been 10 months since we officially launched and we’ve reached 1,000 members here at Outdoorzy. And we’re pretty frikin pumped about it! We owe it all to you, the members, for spreading the word. Thanks!!!

1000 members

DoubleA is the historic member and he’s getting a t-shirt.

And we’re not stopping there. Since we’re promoting our new Groups section, The next 10 people to create a group that gets 5 or more members, gets a t-shirt too! So create a group and get some friends to join, upload some pics, and start planning an outdoor excursion together!

Each of us probably knows 5 other outdoorzy people. So, let’s spread the word. Just forward a link to Outdoorzy to 5 of your outdoor-lovin friends and let them know how cool it is. We would GREATLY appreciate it. And it will be fun to have your buddies enjoying the site with you. :)

Thanks again for making this the best community on the web!!!

Group Time

And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for….. Outdoorzy Groups!

groups

Ever wanted to have a place for your cycling club, climbing buddies, paddling group, or just your crew to assemble online? Ever wanted a place that all of you could edit and add events, post bulletins for the group, plan group outings, coordinate trips, or put up pictures for each other? NOW YOU CAN.

Check out our Groups section. It is going to be a blast to play with. Create a Group and invite your outdoorzy and non-outdoorzy friends to join it. Then start having fun. Heck, you could just create a Group for one event. “Fall Camping Trip at Stanley’s Cabin” or “2007 Climbing Trip to the Gorge”. Be creative and have fun. That’s what Outdoorzy is all about anyway. And let us know if there are ways we can improve the Groups section for you. Check it out!

Wanna Run an Off-Road Tri… in Jamaica?

Awwww yeah. Could you have a better locale to recover from a tough off-road triathlon? Our buddies down at Jakes are putting on their annual tri there in Treasure Beach.

Now in its 13th year the Jake’s Jamaican Off-Road Triathlon takes place every spring, featuring a 500-meter ocean swim, a 13.7-mile mountain bike course and a 4.3-mile cross-country run and can be done as a team or individually. The race is the main fundraiser for Breds Treasure Beach Foundation, a local non-profit that helps raise funds for sports, education, environmental initiatives and health programs in the small fishing village of Treasure Beach. Also, local mountain biker Andy is available to take people around this course. Rates for Jake’s start at $95 based on double occupancy now through December 14, 2007, and $115 from December 15, 2007 to April 19, 2008.
And as an Outdoorzy member you’ll get a 5th night free when booking 4 nights through December 14th.

Mark your calendars, the date is April 27th, 2008.
