The Primal Quest Badlands began this weekend and I'm stoked to follow along with the race. And by follow along, I mean fans can actually see where all the teams are during the race thanks to the SPOT gps system. This year's race meanders through the badlands and black hills of South Dakota. With it's rocky landscape it makes for a great venue for the race.
As you follow along to see how the teams are doing you can zoom in on the terrain they're encountering and monitor where they are with their checkpoints during the race. I played around with it over the weekend and it's pretty fun to watch. The race ends on August 23rd... ten grueling days of biking, orienteering, running, and paddling.
“SPOT revolutionized the adventure racing experience last year in Montana not only for the athletes but also the race staff and fans around the word,” said Don Mann, Primal Quest director. “For the first time ever extreme adventure racers have a tracking device that is light-weight and rugged enough to withstand the punishment of this race and reliable enough to provide location-based tracking of the teams online.

What is the trick to get the "spot" map to track.... I click on everything to just get a map with no tracks.
Not sure if there is a trick. It was working for me. Maybe they were having an outage. Try back again. Also, you may want to try a different internet browser if you have one. Sometimes these software don't work in certain browsers.
