When I was a kid a lot of my friends were really into G.I. Joe and Masters of the Universe. Or some, like Wade, love My Little Pony. I however absolutely loved Transformers. They were awesome and the toys were fantastic. They are aliens who turned into cars that turned into robots. How frickin cool is that?
But with any great toy from back in the day, was an even greater cartoon from which that toy came from. I remember coming home from school and plopping down on the couch to check out what was going on in the world of Autobots vs Decepticons. Granted I should have been outside, but come on, did I mention they were vehicles that turned in to robots?
On June 16th a 25th anniversary edition of the complete first season of the Transformers will be available. The set includes:
- The 16 original episodes restored to the original broadcast versions with new stereo soundtrack created from the original audio.
- Triple Changer: From Toy to Comic to Screen - The origins of The Transformers - documentary
- A printable script
- Rare PSA
- Archival Hasbro toy commercials
- With some packages an Autobot logo magnet
I watched the episodes again and was floored by how much I had forgotten and how much I really loved the show. I think this is the perfect gift for people in their late 20's early 30's who grew up watching these types of cartoons. Your 10 year old cousin may not like it, but they really can't appreciate it like we could. On the other hand with the giant sequel (Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen ) coming out this summer, some of the younger fans might really like to get their hands on some of this original content.
If you get a chance to pick it up, I highly recommend it. If for no other reason than to keep a little bit of your childhood only a short distance away on your DVD shelf.
