Gear Review: Microbites Spork and Spatula

For many of us half the fun of any outdoor outing is the food. Whether you scarf down a dehydrated backpacker meal or whip up a 4 course meal in the backcountry, you're going to need something to eat it with.

The Guyot Designs Microbites Spork and Spatula set worked very well for me on my recent AT section hike. Together they weigh less than an ounce. And at 6 inches long they'll fit in most cooksets with ease. You also get 5 cooking utensils in just two items that snap together to store easily. The spatula can be just that, or it can spread, or even cut with it's serrated edge. And we all know that a spork has a dual use. (eating utensil and weapon against AT shelter mice). ;)

But it's not all about the their light weight, easy packing, and multi-functionality features. The spork and spatula also perform well. They are made of nylon polymer which can withstand 450 degree temps and a 180 lb guy sitting on them. And with most Guyot Designs products you can breathe easy knowing they make their products carbon negative by offsetting 25 lbs of green house gas emissions.

If you like to cook, you can't beat the price on these two. You can buy them directly from Guyot Designs at REI for $4.95.
