Recently I ran two half marathons in a month. I did this so I could compare running a tiny local mini with a huge national one. I learned a lot from both so here is the scoop.

Local and Small
I loved the fact that within 20 minutes of running the race I was in a bubble bath at my home! There were only 4 water stations but it was enough. I enjoyed the start because the participants spread out and I didn't feel like I was going to be trampled nor did I have to constantly dodge people who suddenly decided to walk or stop. I busted through the finish line by myself and that was glorious! Spectators had front row seats and the photos were great!
I felt so connected to nature with this race; it was as if I was the only one running at times.
National and Mammoth
The Country Music half and full Marathon hosted 35,000 runners and they pulled out all the stops. It was incredibly organized from packet pick up to start times to the finish; I counted 7 different food and two drink choices as soon as we stopped running. During the race, I was offered fresh fruit, water, Accelerade, Vaseline, salt, GU and at each mile there was a band playing music. I felt well taken care of but the main issue was other race participants who kept stopping or walking; my knees really felt the beating. At times in the race there were lines 5 person deep for water and some ten person deep at the port-a-potties --crazy right??!
FREE BEER-do I have your attention:) Yes- we all got a free beer at the finish line.
I enjoyed both races and each one contributed to a charity so the personal accomplishment was great but giving for a cause was fantastic!
