Water Shoes - Chameleon Cargo Sport

This week we're going to review a few water shoes. March is officially here, and paddling season is upon us. It's time to gear up so we can get out when the rain comes down and the creeks come up.

Merrell Chameleon Cargo Sport

The Chameleosn Cargo Sport is one of the new class of hybrid water shoes. The original Chameleon has become a classic of the Merrell line of shoes and now it's getting itself wet. the Cargo Sport has some nice features that will make them well worth their while both in and out of the water.

The back strap you see is removable. This means that it can be synched to your heal to make for a tight fit when mud can snatch the shoes off your feet underwater. They also are easily removable if you find in more of a casual setting. A nice feature that reminds me of the moment I first discovered zip-off pants...

These Merrells have the since down shoestring technology that allows for a snug fit. The footbed inside resembles, if not matches exactly, the footbeds of Merrell's other shoes. So, you know you're getting decent support.

The sides are wide open. Plenty of room for the water to move in and out of the shoes. Mesh lines the top of the shoe and the soles are, what else, a grippy Vibram. The shoes are fairly light for their size (mid height), and they don't slip when I walk in them. Another great addition to the Merrell line. And, as a paddler, they seem to have hit the mark pretty closely with the Chameleon Cargo Sport. - $95
