Mountain Khakis... I just liked the name of that company from the beginning. It really speaks to what you can expect from the product. I had high hopes for this field test and it didn't let me down. The Mountain Khakis Original Mountain Pants are a real dual purpose pant. You can wear them out to the pub, or haul firewood in them and they look in their element both places.
With colors like Ranch, Yellowstone, Freestone, and Granite... they will match most any color combination. The Original mountain pant is also triple-stitched throughout to ensure they will weather the storm you put them through. One feature I really liked was the "Action Gusset." This is what they call the 'crotch' area. It has extra material there with the triple-stitching so you don't end up with a hole exposing your boys. This shows that they are thinking about guys who use their pants heavily. This area of pants tends to wear out on alot of us, as it see's alot of movement in daily activities. The cuff is two-ply as well. This means that the back part of the leg that can sometimes drag the ground will last longer.
The material is extremely abrasion resistant on the Original Mountain Pants. Go ahead and slide down that scree slope or scrape a log across it while dragging it to the fire. The only downside to the material is that it needs to be folded right out of the dryer or it wrinkles pretty badly. But hey, they're "mountain pants" right... mountain men don't care about wrinkles.
I'm a big fan of these Mountain Khakis for sure and have been wearing them almost non-stop since I got em. Essential equipment for the outdoor lifestyle.
You can buy these pants now at the Outdoorzy/Sierra Trading Post store for $44.95 in certain sizes/colors. For more color options check out the Mountain Khakis website. They usually run between $70-$80.

I love these pants they are like me hard working but look good doing it
Hmmm... not really sure where to go with this one.
I first purchased a pair a few years back and loved them, until I tore the crotch out of them, then I spent another $80+ on the next pair and well same experience. Now I am not an avid crotch scratcher but I cant figure out why they wore out so quick. These were almost as bad as the DCU's I had in the service!! I do like them but I can't see spending the cash for them to fail. Plus being made of cotton they really like to absorb the water and it takes forever for them to dry out.
I guess I would be willing to try them out again if I was given a pair or won them or found them in goodwill, but for now it was such a hard pill to swallow to lose $160+ for a product that didn't seem to last that long.
I will also say that I moved on to the North Face Paramount convertible pants($65) and these definitely seem to last, hell I was even in a hit and run on my motorcycle and they lasted through the 150 yard asphalt slide!
Other than that thanks for another great write up Wade, you da man!!
Thanks for the 1st hand input Yeti. I haven't had them long enough to do the "extensive" test. They held up well to all the initial tests, so we'll see how they hold up to the test of time.
If you tore through the crouch, it is probably one of two things.
1. An abnormal, defective product
2. You are wearing your pants lower on your hips than they are designed for, causing irregular stress on the fabric
Either way, Mountain Khakis has incredible Customer Service and would replace your pants. It is uncommon to tear through these rugged pants quickly!!
JPH, thanks for the input! I tend to wear my pants normal, i.e. there is no gangsta in me, and the pants fit great. Perhaps there was a product defect, but on two separate pairs I just don't know. As for the customer service, I really should have given it a go. But I am not sure what any clothing manufacturer would consider the life span of their products. However when I did have them I wore them constantly. I freaking loved them and still guess I have a warm spot in my heart for them. However as I said before I can't justify the cost. Maybe this lotto ticket will produce and I will pick up another pair or two.
Thanks for the suggestions nonetheless,
