I just got off the plane from a short trip down to Sanibel Island off the west coast of south Florida. "Short trips" require a different style of packing. For the seasoned traveler knows that over packing is a sin. But even the light-packers can indulge themselves a little with the 3-in-1 wheeled backpack by High Sierra.
The 3-in-1 backpack is part of High Sierra's ATQ series we've been reviewing. The ATQ series was designed with adventure travel in mind. Most Outdoorzy folks are "adventure travelers" by nature. We like to get the most out of our trips. Whether we're traveling for business, pleasure, or even a family visit, we tend to get some sort of outdoor activity squeezed in. It isn't always prudent to bring a carry-on and a pack on your trip. The 3-in-1 makes that part a snap... or a "zip" rather. The 3-in-1 has a day pack that zips on and off the carry-on piece. The daypack is perfect for a day hike or day of exploring. It came in very handy on our recent trip, as we didn't have a rental car on the island. We opted for bicycles instead. The daypack allowed me to carry items along with us, such as food, water, rain gear, as well as beach and kayaking necessities.
The carry-on piece of this set has a generous amount of room for several changes of clothes as well as an extra pair of shoes (might I suggest trail runners). It also boasts backpack straps that zip out of the back. This is the "3" in the 3-in-1. You have a day pack, a carry-on, and the whole thing zips together into a backpack... (for those sprints through the airport, or a haul through town to your hostel or hotel.) The inline skate style wheels roll easily to keep you on the move.
The 3-in-1 wheeled backpack includes some other features that are really essential for someone who travels alot, such as:
- An MP3 player port
- A tow strap to clip on additional items
- A tough handle for grab-and-go situations
- Pull handle and wheels to save your back
- Add-A-Bag system (allows you to snap other bags onto the pull handle
- Organizer for your pens, pda, moleskin diary, and other extras
Comes in Red, Blue, or Gray, and retails for $300 and can be found at several outdoor and travel retailers.
