Yeah, that's right, Wisconsin. The dairy state, the place where That 70s Show was set.
You may have seen the ads for skiing in Wisconsin, and you know it gets alot of snow in the winter, but what about the terrain? And what about the resort options? I mean, you don't want to make a trip to the great white north just to have one resort. Well never fear, there are more than 25 ski and snowboarding locations to choose from in Wisconsin and a variety of terrain options. The Travel Wisconsin website splits the state into three regions; North, Central, and Southern. Just look at Granite Peak if you want to see an example of what Wisconsin has for snowsports.
The best part about choosing an alternative to Colorado, Utah or California is the affordability factor for people in the eastern US. Large scale western resorts can be expensive, not to mention the travel required. In these tough economic times people are looking for "staycations". They want to stay near their home, or within driving distance. If you live in Chicago you can be in Wisconsin within an hour... Indianapolis, 4 hours... St Louis, 5 hours... Des Moine, 5.5 hours, Cincinnati, 6 hours.
Not into driving? With the downturn in the economy, flights are cheaper than ever. I recently booked a roundtrip flight from Nashville to Ft Myers, FL for $247.
Not into downhill skiing or snowboarding? Wisconsin also boasts some awesome Snowmobiling and cross country skiing.
You can find a Snow Conditions report for Wisconsin broken down by county here. Only a few months of good snow left, so get busy booking if you wanna get a trip in this year.
