My guess is that the adventurous types (us) grew up reading fantastical stories with heroes and heroines saving the day (or world), fending off evil villains, and finding new challenges to pursue. Personally I spent days with my nose in the DragonLance Series and it is comforting to know that The Spiderwick Chronicles are continuing to advocate exploration, adventure and challenge!

The Spiderwick Chronicles are a series of five books condensed into a 101 minute DVD. The two-disc Field Guide Edition includes not only the movie, which is tons of fun for adults and children, but special features like interviews, explanation of the characters, inspiration for the film, deleted scenes and way more!
I have two nephews, 8 and 5, and this film is fantastic for them! It is not too scary, it is action packed, and it creates a sense of adventure through imagination. The only semi-warning would be a few choice words uttered by the lead character; the director mentioned they decided to use some adult language to make the teens seem more modern.
The acting is good (Freddie Highmore, the lead, is the little boy from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) the story line is well thought out, and the special effects are believable.
This movie was tons of fun and really took me back to my childhood adventures!
