Blah blah blah... I could talk all day about how important feet are to our daily activities. Hikers and Backpackers know best how a sock can make the difference in a crappy day and an unforgetable day on the trail.

My recent 6 day outting gave me a chance to test some gear, and one of those things I tested was a new pair of Wigwam Hiking/Outdoor Pro socks. I was impressed with the quality and durability of these guys. I had tested a pair of ankle height hiker/biker style socks a month or so ago, but the Hiking/Outdoor Pro's are definitely made for being in a boot.
I wore liner socks and covered my heels with duct tape as I always do on long hikes to prevent blisters. I may talk more about foot care and how duct tape change the face of the outdoors in a later post, but for now... the socks.
They seemed to have a thickness that was just enough to pad and protect from boot seams. The socks also had elastic ribbing that kept your arches and other key areas tight. The day I wore these on my trek the temps got up into the mid 80s and the humidity was already up there. They did get a bit warm on my feat and cause a little sweating, which I don't like. I think that was a combination of wearing a liner sock, having duct tape on my foot, and gore-tex mid-high hikers that don't always allow for the best breathability.
I'd reccomend these socks for day hikes or long jaunts. I did quite a bit of elevation gain and rock hopping and they stood up nicely to that as well.
They retail for $10-12, and you can get Wigwam products at all your favorite outdoor shopping spots.
