Drew Wheelan has created something very special. I’ll let his video tell the rest.

I met this guy earlier this summer in Mexico and had no idea he had created such a neat foundation. I ran into him again last night and got a chance to learn about what he is doing in Africa. I don’t think anybody reading MY blog posts is looking for insight or inspiration… But this is too cool not to pass along. Don’t worry, I’ll be back with more “body function humor” before you know it.

We all know gas prices are ridiculous. But with an outdoor lifestyle where do you put all your “stuff” in a compact car? Storage is a serious consideration when someone with an active lifestyle buys a vehicle. How are you going to get your bikes, camping gear, your buddies, and your dog to the trailhead? Enter the new Saturn Vue Hybrid.

You CAN pull a pop-up camper, have a place to carry all of your gear, AND get good gas mileage. I got the opportunity to test the new Vue and see how well it performed. In stop and go traffic we got 29.1 mpg in our road test. That’s impressive for an SUV of any kind. The Vue boasts 32 mpg on the highway and owners are regularly beating that in their daily driving experience.

The Vue comes with some slick bells and whistles too, like an Onstar system, and an in-dash GPS system. We tested the OnStar as well as the GPS and both performed well. Make calls without fumbling for your phone and let the GPS guide you to your destination.
Attaching a roof rack is made easy with built in ports in the rain gutters. Towing capabilities are typical of a small SUV, but plenty for a small boat or pop-up camper. The Vue Hybrid can has a max of 1,500 lbs towing capacity.
One drawback is a carpeted cargo area, not condusive of easy cleaning after the dog, the paddles, the climbing gear, hiking boots, or other muddy stuff gets thrown in. But most of us have dealt with this issue before and maybe have work arounds. The Saturn Vue Hybrid is not available in All-Wheel-Drive yet either.
All in all though, this is a great vehicle for your everyday outdoor needs, road tripping, grocery getting, and showing off in front of your enviro-geek friends. If you’re in the market for a small SUV, the starting price of $25,995 is not bad considering you get a hybrid that is going to save you money over the standard engine SUVs.
