When I went backpacking there last spring, we ran into a park ranger our second morning out just after we crossed Houchins Ferry Rd. at the trailhead nearest McCoy Hollow. He said that, for years, he's been trying to talk them into reevaluating the park's trail system and that he's an advocate for giving all trails north of the river to the equestrians and creating an entirely new trail system on the opposite side of the river for hikers only.

Lots of hard work on Sal Hallow by mountain bikers will probably go down the tubes. KYMBA is pushing for alternative #4 but with more mileage. I've voted, and you should too.

I would like to add to that, as stated above, balance is the key word. A lot of equestrians think mountain bikers are out to get them. Not so, we just don't have soils that are conducive to wet riding conditions, which most equestrians do not take into consideration. Also, we find that hikers and bikers are much more advocates of "Leave No Trace".
