10 Most Dangerous Mountains

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS Feed (via reader or via email). Thanks for visiting!

I wish I would have thought of this one myself. The Gear Junkie has posted the 10 Most Dangerous Mountains on his website. I think the list is pretty comprehensive. Although I’m sure that the Trango Towers might argue that they should be on there. But all in all, a great list.

I noticed that Mt Washington in New Hampshire made the list. I climbed Mt Washington several years ago in the summer. Now it is pretty dangerous in the winter, with extreme temps and the highest recorded wind speeds in the US. But in summer it’s just a hike and a scramble for anyone in good physical shape. Hit it up if you can. Then you can say you climbed one of the 10 most dangerous mountains in the world. :)

  1. I made the same comment about Mt. Washington when I posted this in my blog a week or so before the Gear Junkie. I had no idea it was on of the “Most Dangerous”. Makes sense that it can be bad in Winter, but isn’t that the case with nearly every mountain?

  2. Yeah I think Washington gets all the attention because it has set records for wind and temps. But I’m with you Kraig, it’s not too tough in the warm months. Many mountains can be rough in Winter.

  3. I was surprised by Mt. Washington and Mt. Fuji, but I think the blogger was looking at the number of deaths. One of the reasons Washington has that status is because of the accessibility to us Mericans.

  4. Ok, First off Mount Washington deserves that spot.
Second, Mt Washington experiences winter like conditions in the summer try living in the state and up in the north country of NH, Mount Washingtons always a rough climb with its crazy cliffs and rocky terrain. The reason why it really truly won is because it is amazing for a 7,000 foot mountain to even experinence these crazy weather conditions, it experienced the biggest wind gust not just in the us but in the world. It experiences -50 degree weather if not lower.. For a mountain of that size it creates its own weather patterns, like the 25,000 plus mountains you hear about. Its not just because of its deaths its because its so small and it gets credit for its amazing ability to create its own patterns. The weather you see in NH is completely different from what it is on Mt Washington. Yes it doesn’t experience the weather that K2 does because that mountain is up in the clouds and the weather up there is cold so it creates snow. You guys probably experienced mt washington on a nice summer day and your lucky because that is extremely prettier. However, i have experienced brutal conditions in the summer. If you lived in NH or new england you would know that that mountain is Wicked Crazy… That mountain experiences snow everyday, it is never a nice day on top of that mountain.. And how come none of the other mountains in the us didnt win this spot like the rockies or the ones in alaska.. Just ponder on that statement. Sorry if i am brutal about this subject but i love my state and its kick asss…
