Ventucky

I saw this blog post on the Piton today, “More SUV Vs. Cyclist Road Rage, Ventucky Style”
I recently reported on the cyclist who was attacked by a motorist in Portland, OR. This is just another case of road rage against cyclists, nothing new.
So, now that you’ve got your daily dose of “Man that sucks,” I’ll get on with the meat of this post, the term “Ventucky.” I first heard this when I was in Ventura, CA a few years ago. I spend quite a bit of time in that little town for work and absolutely love it. It’s got all the attractions of a SoCal coastal town, minus the tourists. But I’m not working for the Ventura Tourism Commission today, so back to Ventucky. I was going surfing with a guy that lived there in town, he was giving me a lesson since I had never surfed. He found out I was born and raised in Kentucky and said, “Ever heard of Ventucky?” He then went on to explain that when someone from Ventura does something “redneck” that is called Ventucky. It is also a term for Ventura sometimes because Ventura is sort of a small town and not as developed as other SoCal towns like Santa Barbara. Urban Dictionary has a funny definition for it. But since I spend my time between Kentucky and Ventura, I aint laughin ya’ll…. next time I’m out thar and I hear “Ventucky” I’m gon whoop some ace! Okay, maybe I’ll just laugh.
