I’m starting to get the feeling you only like us because we have so many chances to win cool stuff… that’s okay we like the attention. On top of the Optima Ultimate Adventure Trip give-away, and the Best Trip Report Contest, we now have the I Am Wolverine give-away.
Wolverine is our newest sponsor, and they have a sweet contest going as well. If you go to Iamwolverine.com you can write a quick blurb about who you are and what you love to do to be eligible to win…
- $100 gift certificate for Wolverine products - hint: you can enter to win this one multiple times, just click on the Wolverine ads on our site and it will allow you to vote over again each day, registering you to win again! And they’re cool with that
- A Wolverine Prize Pack including clothing, boots, gloves, etc.
- $500 and a featured spot in a national ad… You be the hero!
So, hop on over to Wolverine and register. And don’t forget to click on their ads on Outdoorzy over the next month while this contest is going on, and you can vote for yourself to win over and over
For those of you who don’t know. Wolverine has a full line of quality hiking boots. I checked them out at Bass Pro Shops about a month ago, and they look durable and stylish. We haven’t tested them yet, but if the quality on their hiking line is as good as their work boots and hunting boots, they should be top notch.

The beauty of Mt Leconte (the one in the Smoky Mountains) is that it is accessible to anyone of a reasonable fitness level. I’ve never been up Leconte, but I’ve heard great things about it. When the movement started to create the Smoky Mountain National Park, a tent city was set up on the summit of Mt Leconte to entertain dignitaries from Washington. Now Mt Leconte Lodge sits near the summit, where backpackers can find rustic accommodations if they like.
Mt Leconte - (6,593 ft/2,010 m)
This image is from mtleconte.com, a must view resource for anyone wanting to climb Leconte. There are five trails that can get you to the summit of Leconte. Alum Cave Trail, The Boulevard Trail, Bullhead Trail, Rainbow Falls, and Trillium Gap Trail. The best time to climb is May-September and many prefer September when the leaves are changing.

Two men are presumed dead on the Bow River in Canada. The river was raging due to high water. There was a large group of boats approaching the “weir” or low-head dam when a few of the boats didn’t get to shore in time. Apparently the boats went over the dam. Low-head dams are particularly dangerous because water flows over them in a perfect sheet creating a hydraulic under the dam. A hydraulic created by a low-head dam circulates water like a washing machine on its side. If a person gets caught in this it is nearly impossible to get out of.
Witnesses say the men weren’t wearing PFDs when seen floating toward the dam and one witness reported that one of the men who made it to shore smelled of alcohol.
I would write some kind of reminder about wearing PFDs and staying sober on whitewater, but….. yeah, you know.

What’s not to love about a mountain that hasn’t had a maintained trail to it in over twenty years! The easiest way to get to the mountain is by canoeing across two lakes and then bushwacking until you reach a suitable route up the peak. Talk about an adventure, where do I sign up?
Mt Moran - (12,605 ft/3,842 m)

From Wikipedia
Mount Moran is a mountain in Grand Teton National Park of western Wyoming, United States. The mountain is named for Thomas Moran, an American western frontier landscape artist. Mount Moran dominates the northern section of the Teton Range rising 6,000 feet (1,830 m) above Jackson Lake. Several active glaciers exist on the mountain with Skillet Glacier plainly visible on the monolithic east face. Like Middle Teton in the same range, Mount Moran’s face is marked by a distinctive basalt intrusion known as the Black Dike.

As you might have seen, a crazed man tried to jump on the pope-mobile at the Vatican yesterday. He missed and the pope’s guards quickly subdued him, but it was a close call, and kinda funny to watch the video of him missing.
The real news out of the Vatican though this week is that they are going to start going green! That’s right, solar panels will be installed on the Paul VI auditorium and other buildings next year.
You go Pope!

As many of you know by now the week long Adventure Racing World Championship finished this past weekend in Scotland. The race was a cold and wet one from what I’ve read. Teams went through quite a bit to finish and any team that crossed that line deserves some respect.
Here are the top finishers
- Team Nike
- Wilsa Helly Hanson
- OrionHealth.com
- Buff Coolmax
- Bjurfors Adventure Racing
Congratulations to Team Nike who are now the most winning team in Adventure Racing.

As you guys know, things in this crazy world of ours aren’t free… except your Outdoorzy membership
But we here at Outdoorzy have to pay bills, so to do so we put ads up on the site. The beauty is, alot of these companies have great outdoor products and gear!
Our most recent supporter is Optima Batteries. They sell batteries for boats, off-road use, and high performance cars. Most of us HAVE to have a vehicle, and these batteries last twice as long as the other leading brands. They are the best battery on the market, hands down. So, please click on the Optima Battery ads you see here on the site and check out their products. Optima is sponsoring Outdoorzy and helping us help you. So, give them a look for us when you have a spare minute.
They’re also running a killer give-away that is free to enter. Win an Adventure!
Thanks!
Wade

Woah…bikeboard?

How fun does that look! Swissbikeboard just recently announced the availability of the Bikeboard Offroad and the Bikeboard Street in the United States. If anyone gets one, let us know how it is, because it looks awesome! We might have to add some new categories to our activities.
