Skydive Into South America and Save Lives
I read about this on the Treknologies blog today. Apparently there is a program sponsored by the Red Cross which allows volunteers with the appropriate skills and clearance to parachute into a remote jungle area of Guyana in South America. The team parachuting in brings medical supplies, doctors, and other needed supplies to remote tribes who wouldn’t otherwise have access to that type of medical care.
Once a team is there, they spend time helping in the village, then they hike, canoe, or use a 4X4 to get back to civilization. The entire trip can take weeks, but the impression it makes on the lives of those people must be immense. It sounds like a really worthwhile project. Check it out at RAM. They even have video you can watch about the program.
