As humans we tend to generalize things and situations which are not general. For instance, one might say that their job sucks. We often become comfortable with our broad assessment of complex things.
One thing that bothers me in particular though is the lack of world knowledge our culture has. Granted, many many people around the globe couldn't point out the US on a map. But most of those people don't have the means and technology available to the average American. Americans on the other hand are one of the most technically connected and privileged groups on the planet. Yet, we are shocked and disgusted when another culture generalizes our culture.
I found this comical yet true rendering of a global map on signs-of-the-times.org showing some of our preconceptions about other places.
It seemed to show some of the global stereotypes that we cling to. I do this too, so I'm not innocent either. But I am going to try and make a conscious effort NOT to hold these stereotypes.

Keep the ICE stereotype ones in your mind.
