Outdoor Sports Rule

Some stats were released this month by the recreation research firm Southwick Associates and the polling firm Harris Interactive. Also the Outdoor Industry Association released some interesting numbers. The stats highlight some exciting things about the outdoor sports industry.

  • Outdoor recreation accounts for 5 percent of U.S. jobs and stimulates 8 percent of the nation’s consumer spending
  • Outdoor Sports created 730 billion dollars in spending between October 2004 and 2005
  • More Americans camp than play basketball
  • The number of Americans who bike is twice the population of Canada
  • More people kayak, canoe and raft in the United States than play soccer
  • The number who engage in snow-related activities is greater than the combined populations of Costa Rica, Ireland, Mongolia and New Zealand.

What a great time for Outdoorzy.com to enter the world of outdoor recreation online. With the combined popularity of social networking and outdoor sports I’m growing more and more excited and confident every day. Once the site launches we will have to get the word out, but once that word is out we’re hoping the product we have will sell itself.

Peace, Love, and Outdoorzy

Where are we?

Good question! I am sure it is a question posed by many an outdoorzy blog reader (which is up to about 4, if we are able to count search engine spiders). Lynn has been working hard on forums and profiles, and Wade and myself are working on the LLC process and more site screens. Progress is being made and we are still shooting for a mid-Sept site launch. Loyal fans of the outdoors, stay tuned and keep an eye open…your spot on the net will be here before you know it!
